Day 3 – Georgia thru Alabama & Into Florida! #100happydays

Day 3 – Georgia, thru Alabama and into Florida!

We had a very restful sleep last night and woke up quite early at 5:00am. Brody slept well, which is why we did!  Still hogged the bed, but whatever.

Our start began the exact same time as yesterday, 8:15 right on the dot.  We are very excited to get to our destination this afternoon.

Didn’t get any pictures in Alabama…Sweet Home Alabama..I missed the sign!  But, got these!

We stopped in the welcome centre and had a wonderful glass of fresh orange juice and oh the sun…it’s shining and 16C.

Just 2 hours from our destination!:

47 minutes to go!!

ARE WE THERE YET?

OMG!  We are here and it’s beautiful!  The sand on the beach is white.  Brody took off and had such a wonderful run jumping in the waves and greeting everyone on the beach!

Oh…I can take this for a month…..or two!

Life is good.

Day 2 -Georgetown Kentucky – Through Tennessee – Columbus Georgia #100happydays

After an unsettling beginning of our sleep last night., i.e. in bed at 8pm, sleeping by 9pm and awakened by a panting dog at 11:30pm as he “forgot” to pee, we had a really good rest. We have a queen bed at home and we were really excited to know that for the next 5 weeks, we were going to enjoy a king bed.  You see, Brody is one big bed hog!  I remember when the kids were little (Melissa) always having a little person (is 18 considered a little person?) in bed sleeping in various positions that take up most of your personal space.  Well, Brody is no different and the king bed doesn’t make a difference.  He can just stretch out better…

After a lovely breakfast of Biscuits, and for some, sausage and gravy, eggs, yogurt and fruit, we set off for Columbus Georgia at 8:15am.

Beautiful drive through the hills of Kentucky.  Ice and snow seeping through the rock.

Next stop Tennessee welcome centre for a pit stop, a little walk up a trail (please pee Brody) with a lovely view!

…but no pee.  Tanks not full yet, but the southern drawl is…in Tin-ah-say….

Our next Rest Stop started out very enjoyable.  We found a gate that led to a forest trail (well, we had to blaze part of it).  Brody had himself a little swim – but still no pee!

When we got back into the truck, a very scetchy looking man came up to us all stress telling us that his wife was in a car accident with his daughter and the police wouldn’t tell them anything about their condition…he was pretty much hyperventilating…would we have any money to give him…ahem.  We handed over $5.00 U.S. dollars (in fear, I might add).  Next time, we will park closer to everyone else and hopefully will be much less of a “mark”.

Almost to our final destination for the day, which will be Columbus Georgia.  We stopped in Atlanta at the…you guessed it…COSTCO!  The Costco we went to yesterday virtually had nobody in it!  You could shoot a cannon down the aisle..and there was NO lineup for the gasoline..Things are now back to normal and this Costco was just as busy as the one at home.  BUT, here’s the difference (and I hope not to upset anyone in Retail at home), the Southern hospitality is just amazing. Just makes you be happy when people are treating you so well as a customer.  i can’t say enough about them.  We could learn a thing or two.  Anyway, I regress…TWELVE bottles of JLOHR…twelve!  If our dollar wasn’t so low, I would have saved 30%.  We got our dinner for tonight and our lunch for tomorrow.  Now that we’re on a fixed income, we have to watch the pennies…so we can buy more Jlorh! My absolute favourite wine (Liana)!   It’s now been almost 10 hours since our boy has peed or anything else.  We’ve been to two rest-stops and walked around Costco for 1/2 an hour..nuttin!  Not sure what he’s saving it up for.  Let’s hope he let’s it spill when we arrive at the hotel in an hour or so.The day has absolutely beautiful…SUNNY all the way and temperature in Atlanta is now 17c!

Are we there yet?

We are…we arrived at 5:15pm.  Walked him, fed him, watered him, walked him…still nothing!  Oh well, we’re settled in for the night and he will let us know when he needs to “go out”….just hoping not at 3:am

What an amazing drive we had today.  Listening to tunes, driving in the sunshine and admiring the amazing landscape.

Life is good….

Day 1 – Pickering to Kentucky #100happydays

Day 1 – Pickering to Kentucky #100happydays

We set the alarm this morning for 2:45am. Brody on the other hand had his own alarm clock – one that awoke each ½ hour due to the various trips to the truck to pack it up…and he wasn’t in it! We gave in at 2:30 and hit the start button on the coffee. The last odds and sods completed at the house before we left and a stop at Timmie’s where our favourite Pet Carer, Lara works one of her many jobs. She treated us to an amazing breakfast of her own concoction of turkey, veggies, cheese & yummy chipotle sauce all grilled in a wrap…YUM!!! She put a goody bag together for us with soup, donuts AND chicken for Brody…we were all set and began our trip at 4:18am.

We were concerned about the weather around the London area, as there was a dusting of snow overnight and a common spot for whiteouts. We sailed through that area without incident.

Our first stop was just before the Ambassador Bridge border crossing to fill up with gas (why? so cheap in the US…live and learn) and washroom break for us all – except Brody who is the only MALE lab that can hold his pee for 12 hours. You would think most males would cock their legs on each trash can, light post and anything else that is stationery….not our boy. It was VERY cold with the wind. The temperature said 0 celsius , but it felt like -10 with the windchill.

Time to change drivers. We sailed across the border; Brody’s papers and our passports was all that he asked us to provide along with the typical questions about food (fruit…right Mum?). Next Stop was Ohio, just before Cincinnati. After much pleading – “poopoo, peepie Brody”…”PLEASE”…he finally obliged but only after we spotted a deer in the woods! At first, we thought it was a very large dog…you think I’d have pulled my phone out of my purse? Noooo…I must have been half asleep…but I did get a pic of the sign…IMG_1538FullSizeRender

The weather has been amazing for our drive so far. Now 9C and SUNNY…ahhhh…the sun!

Um…..there is a very bad smell now in the truck…who stepped in it? We will find out at our next stop…I’m afraid to look.

So now off to Costco..Mikey has the bug. Can’t pass up a Costco…I’m not sure exactly what we’re looking for, but hey..I’m game!

Wouldn’t you know it…it was me that had pooh all over my boot!  How does one get SH!T off one’s boot?  Very carefully!

Costco..hmmmm we didn’t find it that cheap when you add the exchange.  As Mikey says…”The Robin’s in the park haven’t flown south as it’s too expensive”…BUT, we did get our dinner for tonight for under $20.  The booze (yes, you can get booze at Costco) was a bit cheaper, but the gas blew it all away.  Costco Gas – $1.51 for unleaded…ah..that per GALLON…we paid a little more for premium.  Good haul!

We are here (just after 3!) in Georgetown Kentucky all settled in our “upgraded” room with the nicest check in lady to whom we snuck down a glass of wine.

Let’s hope we have an uneventful night (Brody)!

ahhhhh…life is good!
